In my previous posts, we explored various methods of collecting data for PBIS implementation. However, understanding these methods is just the first step. The real challenge lies in putting them into practice effectively.
To address this, I'm excited to announce that my next series of articles will focus on creating a comprehensive PBIS Field Guide for Human-Centered Design. I mean, heck, this blog was started as a way for me to share what I am learning, but it should also be valuable, right?
This guide will be a practical resource, combining cutting-edge PBIS tools with step-by-step instructions on implementing human-centered design principles in your school's PBIS program.
In this PBIS Field Guide we'll dive deep into:
Empathy Interviews
Resources:
4. Synthesize your research to identify key insights and themes around student behaviors, motivations, environmental factors, etc., and then create insight statements to guide idea generation.
5. Ideating by brainstorming a wide range of potential interventions and supports, from school-wide policies to classroom management techniques to individual student incentives.
6. Building rough prototypes of promising ideas, like a rewards system or mentor program. Get feedback from students and iterate.
7. Create a cohesive concept for a multifaceted PBIS system with defined components. Align on the core design principles it should embody.
8. Implementing: rolling out pilots of different aspects of the program. Continue collecting feedback and iterating before scaling up.
9. Defining your success metrics focused on improved student behaviors and experiences, not just reduced referrals. Measure both quantitative and qualitative impacts.
10. Implementing the program school wide with an eye toward continuous improvement based on feedback. View it as an ongoing initiative to adapt to changing student needs over time. Set a schedule and plan for periodic review.
Follow along for the complete plan. When each section is completed, it will be updated as a link on this post.
